Therapy for athletes and high performers

We work with athletes aged 11+ who want to perform and feel better doing it.
We support athletes who feel stuck under pressure, experience mental blocks, or want to build stronger mental skills for competition. Sessions focus on confidence, focus, emotional regulation, and performing when it matters most

  • You train with intention. You push yourself. You care about results.

And at some point, effort alone stops being enough.

Maybe pressure hits harder than it used to. Maybe your body tightens, your mind races, or skills that are automatic in practice don’t show up when it matters. Maybe you’re still performing — but it feels fragile, exhausting, or harder to access.

    If you’ve ever wondered:

    • “Why does this feel so hard even when I’m prepared?”

    • “Why can’t I reproduce my performance under pressure?”

    • “Is this a mental weakness — or something I can actually train?”

    You’re asking the right questions.

  • Athletes are wired to solve problems through effort, discipline, and repetition.

So when performance starts to feel inconsistent or anxiety shows up, many assume they should be able to “push through it.” Therapy can feel like the wrong tool — too soft, too passive, or disconnected from performance goals.

    A common concern we hear:

    • “Will this actually help me perform better?”

    • “Will a therapist understand competitive pressure?”

    • “Will this turn into endless talking instead of real change?”

    Those concerns make sense.

Sport places demands on your nervous system, focus, and identity that generic therapy often doesn’t address. Working with someone who understands both performance demands and psychological processes matters.

  • Performance anxiety isn’t a lack of toughness or commitment.

It’s a predictable response when the nervous system is carrying:

    • High expectations and constant evaluation

    • Fear of mistakes or consequences

    • Pressure to perform for coaches, teammates, parents, or scholarships

    • Identity tied closely to results

    • Previous injuries, setbacks, or losses of trust in the body

When this load builds, the nervous system prioritizes protection over precision.

That’s when athletes experience overthinking, hesitation, tightness, inconsistency, or mental blocks — not because they aren’t capable, but because their system is overloaded.

  • Therapy for athletes isn’t about lowering standards or talking you out of ambition.

It’s about improving how your system responds under pressure so your training actually transfers to competition.

    Our work focuses on:

    • Understanding how your nervous system reacts in high-stakes moments

    • Training regulation skills that improve consistency and recovery

    • Reducing performance anxiety without suppressing intensity

    • Rebuilding confidence that holds under pressure

    • Separating self-worth from results — so performance becomes more stable

Mental performance and mental health aren’t separate systems. When they’re aligned, athletes perform with more clarity, control, and confidence.

Struggling with past events, substance use, or patterns that feel out of control can affect your sleep, mood, relationships, and sense of safety. Our therapists provide compassionate support to help you process experiences, build healthier coping strategies, and feel more in control of your life today.

TRauma, addiction and FIRST RESPONDERS

  • Serious support for people who want to feel safer, stronger, and more in control
You’ve faced experiences that still show up in your body, mind, or relationships. You’ve tried coping on your own. You’ve pushed through, adapted, and carried on.
And at some point, effort alone stops being enough.
Maybe sleep feels impossible. Maybe emotions spike unexpectedly. Maybe relationships feel strained, or daily life feels heavier than it should. Maybe you’re managing — but it’s exhausting, fragile, or hard to sustain.

    If you’ve ever wondered:
“Why does this still affect me even though it happened in the past?”
“Why can’t I break patterns that keep showing up?”
“Can therapy really help me feel more in control?”
    You’re asking the right questions.

  • Struggling with past events, substance use, or compulsive behaviors isn’t a sign of weakness.
It’s a natural response when your nervous system carries:

    • Past trauma, loss, or unsafe experiences

    • Habits or coping patterns that once helped you survive

    • Anxiety, shame, or fear about repeating past pain

    • Pressure from relationships, work, or self-expectations
When this load builds, your body and mind prioritize survival over ease, connection, or clarity. That’s when sleep, focus, relationships, and emotional balance can feel off — not because you’re incapable, but because your system is overloaded.

  • Therapy for trauma and addiction isn’t about blame, shame, or pretending it didn’t happen. It’s about helping your mind and body respond in ways that restore control, stability, and wellbeing.

    Our work focuses on:

    • Understanding how past experiences and coping patterns show up today

    • Building skills to regulate emotions, reduce anxiety, and improve sleep

    • Supporting healthier habits around substances and behaviors

    • Rebuilding confidence and safety in yourself and your relationships

    • Creating strategies that fit your life — so recovery feels real and sustainable

  • People who’ve faced trauma or addiction are often used to solving problems on their own, through willpower, control, or avoidance.
So when old patterns or difficult feelings keep resurfacing, therapy can feel unnecessary, intimidating, or disconnected from what you actually need.

    Common concerns we hear:
“Will this just be talking with no real change?”
“Will a therapist understand what I’ve been through?”
“Will I have to relive things I’m not ready to face?”

Those concerns are valid. Trauma, addiction, and difficult experiences affect your nervous system, coping habits, and identity in ways generic therapy often doesn’t address. Working with someone who understands both experience and practical recovery matters

Therapy for anxiety and depression at Lyft Counselling supporting kids, adults, and athletes in Toronto, GTA, and Ontario

Serious support for people who want clarity, calm, and balance
Life can feel overwhelming, even when everything looks “fine” on the outside. Constant mental noise, pressure at work, or challenges in relationships can leave you exhausted, anxious, or unsure of your next step. You may be managing — but it feels fragile, draining, or hard to keep up.

STRESS, ANXIETY AND Depression

  • If you’ve ever wondered:
“Why can’t I switch off, even when I should be relaxing?”
“Why does life feel so stressful even when I’m doing well?”
“Can I handle this without burning out?”

    You’re asking the right questions.

  • People under stress often push themselves to cope through effort, planning, or control. Therapy can feel unnecessary, intimidating, or disconnected from “real life.”

    Common concerns we hear:

“Will this just be talking with no practical help?”
“Will a therapist understand my pressures and responsibilities?”
“Will this take forever before I feel any change?”

Those concerns are normal. Stress, anxiety, and life transitions affect your energy, focus, and relationships in ways that generic advice or coping strategies often don’t address. Working with someone who understands both practical challenges and mental health matters.

  • Feeling anxious, overthinking, or burned out isn’t a sign of weakness.
It’s a natural response when your nervous system is carrying:

    • Constant pressure from work, school, or family

    • High expectations for yourself or from others

    • Life transitions, uncertainty, or identity shifts

    • Difficulty setting boundaries or managing relationships
When this load builds, your body and mind prioritize survival and alertness over ease, rest, or focus. That’s when overthinking, tension, or self-criticism appear — not because you aren’t capable, but because your system is overloaded.

  • Therapy for stress, anxiety, and life challenges isn’t about lowering your standards or avoiding responsibility.
It’s about helping your mind and body respond in ways that restore clarity, balance, and energy.
    Our work focuses on:

    • Understanding how stress and anxiety show up in your life

    • Building skills to manage overthinking, pressure, and burnout

    • Improving communication, boundaries, and relationships

    • Navigating life transitions with confidence and direction

    • Supporting high-functioning anxiety and perfectionism without shame

Children and teenagers participating in therapy at Lyft Counselling for anxiety, stress, depression, and emotional growth

Supporting kids through the moments that feel too big to handle alone.

We offer therapy designed specifically for pre-teens and teens navigating anxiety, pressure, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions. Our approach meets them where they are, without forcing them into something that feels uncomfortable or unnatural.

Therapy for Kids (Ages 10+)

  • This may be a good fit if your child:

Feels anxious, overwhelmed, or easily stressed.

Struggles with confidence or self esteem.

Gets stuck in negative thought patterns.

Avoids challenges, school, or activities they once enjoyed.

Has big emotional reactions like shutting down, frustration, or anger.

Finds it hard to talk about what is going on.

  • Most kids are not excited about therapy.

    • They often think:
I do not want to sit and talk about my feelings.

    • This is going to be awkward or boring.

    • I do not even know what to say.

    • Something must be wrong with me if I am here.

We understand this, and we build our approach around it.

  • Therapy gives kids tools they can actually use in real life, not just ideas that sound good in theory.

    We help them:

    • Understand what they are feeling and why.

    • Handle anxiety and stress in the moment.

    • Build confidence and trust in themselves.

    • Navigate social pressure, school, and performance.

    • Feel more in control of their thoughts and reactions.

This is not about fixing them. It is about helping them feel more capable in their own life.

  • Lyft is fully virtual, but it does not feel like traditional therapy.

Sessions are interactive, engaging, and built for real attention spans. We use real life examples, simple tools, and conversations that actually make sense to them.

We also bring in creative, hands on activities like writing, drawing, painting, play doh, and in some cases even movement or dance.

This helps kids express what they are feeling in ways that do not rely on just talking.

There is no pressure to say the perfect thing. No clinical feeling. Just a space where they can show up as they are.

For many kids, being at home makes it easier to open up. It feels more natural, more comfortable, and more like a conversation than a session.
